At first we are kind of coming for Aurora viewing, but I feel like the highlight of the tour turns out to be Bobby sharing the history and different interesting stories of the Dene. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing his culture - I hope he continues to promote his culture through running these tours. We were so fascinated by the stories of the first nation people and understand more about the struggles they have been through. Bobby and his nephew also set up their campsite nicely with hot drinks, heated washroom, couches. We played the traditional drums and tried some grilled fish. We also witness the aurora while we are on the snowmobile travelling to the campsite. Props to Bobby!

As many folks above have said, Bobby makes you feel at home-- stories and friendliness, not just a transactional relationship. There is more of a meal rather than just coffee/tea -- there's bannock, macaroni salad, and fish. Plus the stories of the First Nation just were so good. For the photographers, Bobby and several other people all offered tips on stabilizing my camera (avoid the dock where the wood shakes around), good settings, etc. The aurora herself is beautiful, but no one else was as kind to us.

We were picked up on time and both hosts were warm and friendly. We truly appreciated the quad ride from the van to the centre for my aunt who has mobility issues. Then a short ride to the cabin on the back of a snowmobile, or in the sled which was towed behind it. The aurora didn't show up for us that night but there was plenty to see and do, well worth the trip.

 Verified Amazing personalized tour Bdene was very nice to offer me a personalized tour. I was given an interesting guided visit through Ndilo and Dettah. My host shared so much information and stories and lived experiences as we drove and walked though the camp in Dettah. I really appreciated the outing and am still thinking about all I learned.  Verified WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH B.DENE: TRUE CULTURAL IMMERSION + PERSONALISED SERVICE My mum and I went on the aurora viewing experience with B.Dene adventures. Bobby Drygeese himself picked us up at our hotel, and made sure we had a wonderful experience. My mum felt slightly scared of the ride on the ice road because she had read it could be somewhat bumpy, but Bobby made sure she was comfortable and perfectly safe, so much so, she deeply enjoyed it! What we enjoyed most was the personalised experience we got with B.Dene. I have been to Yellowknife twice, I have tried several service providers, and can say with confidence B.Dene is one of the top two. Others can feel somewhat impersonal and tend to cater to mass tourism. B.Dene is different. If you want a true cultural immersion, with stories from ACTUAL Dene people and a little something "extra" that others simply do not offer, by all means, do try B.Dene Adventures. They have their own website, I booked and paid directly there. The process is simple, they are professional, highly recommendable!

 Verified Great Cultural Tour We're so glad we booked this experience. At first we thought 4 hours was a long tour but the time flew by and there was so much to do. Pick up and drop off at our AirBnB was efficient and comfortable. We drove out on the Ice Road to Dettah as Bobby filled us in on the practicality of the road in winter and we could look down into the clear blue ice. My son had really wanted to include some sort of ice fishing experience and this fit the bill. We were able to experience going out on the lake and the use of a "jigger"and net. Not only that but we learned how to fillet the fish we caught and then ate the fish in a delicious hot stew along with Bannock and honey butter. Bobby and his crew were so accommodating and friendly, reminding us to dress warmly. Bobby regaled us with stories about the indigenous people, the Dene, including personal stories about his family going back several generations. The cabin as well has the history of the Dene all around the cabin walls. I highly recommend this tour with B Dene if you want to truly experience Yellowknife.

 Verified The best time you'll have in NWT! Do this tour- especially if you are only doing one! Snowmobiles, culture, drumming, fish cleaning, great food, best hot chocolate and wonderful auroras.  Verified Besides Auroras, a cultural experience as well. Bob, runs a lowkey,but great experience. We were sledded to the Dennah camp by snow machine. There we had views of Great Bear Lake and he had a teepee set for the perfect aurora photograph. There was a rustic, but warm hunting camp where we could take breaks from the cold, though it was calm the temperature was -25°. Later in the evening we watched Bob fillet and cook some freshly caught Whitefish, accompanied by native Bannock. To cap the evening, we ended our night with a Dené drumming circle. We had excellent display of the Northern Lights, but learning more about the Dené culture enriched our experience. I would highly recommend this trip for those that want a cultural experience as well.

 Verified Winter fun on Slave Lake! Such a fun afternoon, learning about the indigenous culture in Yellowknife! It was so fun to learn about the history of the indigenous people in Yellowknife. Our host Bobby was so genuine and funny. It was also really cool to be taken out on the lake in sleds on the back of snowmobiles to see how net fishing works under 50 inches of ice! Bobby showed us how the fish is prepared and then we got to enjoy trying the fish as well as some amazing Bannock that was made fresh!

 Verified Authentic Experience The tour starts with with a drive across the ice road to the Dene settlement then on to the viewing camp by snow-mobile. The hosts offered a warm cabin and refreshments including fish and bannock, a kind of traditional baked bread. Later we did a drum circle and we were lucky enough to catch a great aurora display.  Verified Amazing, fun, unique, interesting tour. HIGHLY recommend!! Super unique and fun tour!! We were lucky enough to get a small group and clear skies for most of the night. The tour starts by getting picked up and then we drive for about 20mins and get on a mini snowmobile- sled ride into the camp itself. The camp is awesome - nice setup. For the whole evening it’s a combination of being outside and watching the Aurora, sitting inside and hearing some stories and learning about the culture, eating fresh grilled white fish on the fire with bannock, drumming, and more Aurora! I highly recommend this tour because it’s the ONLY tour that is run by original indigenous people (Dene) in Yellowknife. It’s original, cultural, and their own. It isn’t the classic Aurora hunting big group tour where you sit on a bus, stand in line to get your photo taken and then go on Instagram for the rest of the tour. This is a MUST do. If you are going on multiple Aurora tours (which you should do at least 2 different one) this should be one of them. Do this tour if you want something new, unique, interesting, original, adventurous, and care about the culture and history of Yellowknife. This tour DOES NOT include professional photos. Keep that in mind. But worth it regardless of the photos, you can get them on a different tour.
