We had a very good experience with Bobby! At first we are kind of coming for Aurora viewing, but I feel like the highlight of the tour turns out to be Bobby sharing the history and different interesting stories of the Dene. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing his culture - I hope he continues to promote his culture through running these tours. We were so fascinated by the stories of the first nation people and understand more about the struggles they have been through. Bobby and his nephew also set up their campsite nicely with hot drinks, heated washroom, couches. We played the traditional drums and tried some grilled fish. This was the best experience we had doing the aurora thing, out of four local stays. As many folks above have said, Bobby makes you feel at home-- stories and friendliness, not just a transactional relationship. There is more of a meal rather than just coffee/tea -- there's bannock, macaroni salad, and fish. Plus the stories of the First Nation just were so good. For the photographers, Bobby and several other people all offered tips on stabilizing my camera (avoid the dock where the wood shakes around), good settings, etc. The aurora herself is beautiful, but no one else was as kind to us.

My family and I spent an evening with Bobby and Aaron and it was a fantastic visit of sharing, Aurora viewing and  drumming. We were picked up on time and both hosts were warm and friendly. Bobby Drygeese runs an excellent tour! It started with a pickup after dark by minibus and a drive down the ice road to Dettah. Then a short ride to the cabin on the back of a snowmobile, or in the sled which was towed behind it. Authentic Experience The tour starts with with a drive across the ice road to the Dene settlement then on to the viewing camp by snow-mobile. The hosts offered a warm cabin and refreshments including fish and bannock, a kind of traditional baked bread. Later we did a drum circle and we were lucky enough to catch a great aurora display. Amazing, fun, unique, interesting tour. HIGHLY recommend!! Super unique and fun tour!! We were lucky enough to get a small group and clear skies for most of the night. The tour starts by getting picked up and then we drive for about 20mins and get on a mini snowmobile- sled ride into the camp itself. The camp is awesome - nice setup. For the whole evening it’s a combination of being outside and watching the Aurora, sitting inside and hearing some stories and learning about the culture, eating fresh grilled white fish on the fire with bannock, drumming, and more Aurora! I highly recommend this tour because it’s the ONLY tour that is run by original indigenous people (Dene) in Yellowknife. It’s original, cultural, and their own. It isn’t the classic Aurora hunting big group tour where you sit on a bus, stand in line to get your photo taken and then go on Instagram for the rest of the tour. This is a MUST do. If you are going on multiple Aurora tours (which you should do at least 2 different one) this should be one of them. Do this tour if you want something new, unique, interesting, original, adventurous, and care about the culture and history of Yellowknife. This tour DOES NOT include professional photos. A very special experience with B.Dene Adventures Bobby was very welcoming and we felt very privileged to be his guests at his cabin. It felt like we were visiting a dear friend. We cooked bannock together and it was very authentic and delicious. Bobby told us many stories about his culture, his community and their activities, their traditions, his family. So glad we were here! Bobby was our host and we had a great visit. We were told of the Dene culture and how to clean and cook a fish over fire. The highlight for me was he tuned up 8 drums and we had a drum circle, which was something I never thought I'd get to do.The walk from the road to Bobby's site goes over basalt where you can see the scars of glaciers, quite beautiful.We also were treated to the Northern Lights. Awesome experience with locals I had a great experience learning from the local Dene who hosted the entire aurora viewing experience (pickup, drop off, cooking, cleaning, stories, etc.) and would definitely recommend this. Communication is slower than most tour companies but don't let that deter you from booking with B Dene. They picked me up directly from my BnB, on time, drove me down the ice road, and then took me on a quick and fun snowmobile ride out to the camp. There's a large, warm cabin for everyone to stay in and warm up, along with clean toilets, and refreshments with a late night snack (we had fish and bannock). Dinner and Aurora Bobbie treats you like family visiting from out of town. Great experience. Hot tea, cooked fish, great viewing spot and an education on their heritage. Real Dene experience If you are visiting Yellowknife and need to choose only one tour, this is it. Bobby will tell you all about fishing, trapping, drumming and Dene culture. Aurora viewing Had the chance to see the northern lights with B Dene adventures. This tour came highly recommended by many. Off to a rocky start considering it was very hard to get a hold of anyone and our transportation was late. HOWEVER it was worth the wait. Once we arrived we were greeted amazingly. The cabin was big and warm so you didn't need to freeze all night. They had hot drinks and snacks and even served fresh white fish that they prepared in front of you. The night ended with some drumming. Not only did we get to see northern lights but we had a great cultural experience. Thank you to all the staff on site. Most Genuine and Authentic Tour Bobby and his families are the most genuine people that we have met, and they will tell you everything they know with complete honesty. If you have the chance, please join them for their Cultural Aurora Viewing Tour and Ice Fishing Tour. Bobby and his families have traditionally been chiefs and councilors of the Detah First Nation community. Bobby and his nephew Randy are currently on the council as well. They are very knowledgeable about Yellowknife, their cultures, and traditional way of life. Bobby can also take you to his family fishing spot, and show you what a real net fishing experience is like. Contrary to most of the other Ice Fishing tours, which take you to a close by tourist trap with no fish, dedicated for showing tourists only. Bobby's Ice Fishing is the real deal, they pull up 40-60 fish every second day. You will know Bobby's tour is authentic, when you find out that he is responsible for teaching the young kids in his First Nation community how to properly net fish.Bobby's camp for Aurora Viewing covers a large ground near the Great Slave Lake, it features a large heated cabin, heated washroom, and traditional tipi. The cabin is spacious, comfy, with lots of choices for snacks and drinks. The camp is not only a good photo spot for the Aurora, but It is also rich with cultures as well. Not only is the camp built using traditional methods on their own, but it is also full of real tools and herbs exhibits inside. If you are interested, Bobby and his staff will show you and even use the tools with you together in the wilderness when there are no Aurora. We have also cooked fresh fish together over the tipi bonfire. We ate two large whitefish between the 5 of us, and tasted their homemade bannocks (best bannocks ever...) and caribou stews while waiting for the Aurora.If you just sit down and talk with Bobby and his families, you will realize how genuine they are. Ask them anything, about the city, about their cultures, about their history, and they will tell you everything you ask with complete honesty, and even go out of their way to help you. When there was no Aurora on the first night, Paul even took us exploring in the wilderness, showing us all the traps and herbs in the wood. After finding out that one of us has a bad skin rash, Paul even offer us some of his own spruce gum from home as medicine. As long as you are interested, there are endless stories and cultural experience to be shared and chat all night long. This is the best value that your money can get in Yellowknife, and they are not expensive at all, comparing to the other tour companies that offer far less but has similar pricing. Bobby was even kind enough to let us stay for as long as we like to wait for the Aurora. We were very fortunate to have met such genuine people in our life.
